The way to bring back Americas Industrial base is to lower the costs of living in the USA. It costs too much to produce low cost goods here now. If you doubt that; check out the Union Auto Workers. International quit making pickups here or anywhere because of Union costs. Highest in USA at the time.
Your health care costs are highest in the world I guess. Now the unions want a major increase in their retired medical payments.
Soon, no cars will be made here that can compete in the world market for cost.
Nevada is a Right to Work State. On paper. Try doing anything the Unions want to do. They will strike all your contractors till they put you out of business!!
I know; I was there.
Want a Industrial base? Cost the companies less. Cost all of us less for food and gas, housing is atrocious in cost for the people who are Not in the upper pay scales.
I hope you get your wish. I live in a 1976 Marlette trailer; I am a Master Gardener and cannot get a job in my home area; I do not speak Spanish and so cannot work with Mexican/ Spanish speaking crews.
I am Good! Last company I worked for in Arizona was sold for $10,000,000.00+ The grounds had 856 kinds of plants and in 1984 there were 250 in bloom at one time. I work part time here at home; for lack of
Spanish speaking ability---- in my own country. It was my life for 35 years. It is VERY true that we had a innovative and thinking people and now we have a school system that values the Norm; not the unusual and bright among us.
School books are rewritten to make a point, not tell the truth. Our Nation will die an ugly death for lack of ability to excel anymore. Upgrade the schools or have foreign doctors to treat you. We have a Lazy Nation that wants to get it's nose wiped and that is not the only end . Free and NO work required to get paid.
If they and we do not get God in our Hearts and Minds again; we are dead as a nation, it is a Constant in the Old and New Testaments.

Absolutely! First of all, goods made in the U.S. are generally better quality than the goods made in China. We also have a bad trade deficit with China so we need to stop importing so much stuff. Go to K-Mart or any store (even Nordstrom). An outrageous amount of merchandise is made in China. If you read up on what is going on in China, you will also find out that due to the nature of the government, they don't try to protect the environment. A good portion of the smog in Los Angeles comes from China. By buying Chinese goods, you are part of the problem- increasing the trade imbalance and contributing to global pollution.
Also, right now, the American dollar is weak overseas; that means we can export products and they are more affordable to the rest of the world than they would be if the dollar were strong. Our country has turned into a service economy. It is time we started manufacturing again so we do not have to rely so much on imports.

This is a very challenging thing. Chinese work for extended hours per week and they use advanced technology that is almost on par with the American technology. Moreover, there are 1.5 billion Chinese people which give Chinese companies larger labor and human resources and bigger market. I think this American generation cares more about their lifestyle and having a balanced life. Hence competing with the Chinese in the industrial sector will lead to many compromises. I think the US should concentrate on excelling at innovations and on expanding the American market via broader agreements with northern and southern American countries to create a large economic zone than can compete with China.

Yes - if only to keep lead paint out of children's goods, and toxic substances out of our toothpaste and pet food.
Also, supposedly (don't quote me on this), toxic industry fumes are being blown from china to the west coast of the Americas. I didn't realize pollution could travel that for overseas . . .

How about we return to "America's base foundation first". That being the "Constitution." Everything else we do will be in vain if we don't.

Yes. And we can when the bottom-line mentality quits undermining the foundations of American productivity.
