Hi, I'm a nurse, and if you can't go to the doctor and you know you've broken it, use medical tape (if you have it) otherwise the best tape to use is electrical tape, and tape it to the finger next to it (ring finger). This will stabilize it and help it heal. If you also happen to have a popsicle stick around, tape that on the bottom as well. That keeps it from hitting on the tip of the finger and protect from all angles. I hope this helps. Of course the best thing to do is have it x-rayed and seen by a dr, but this will do. Good luck!!

Well, let's not jump to the conclusion of forcing you to go to the doctor. But you should know that with any break you risk a bit of internal bleeding, an x-ray would be able to help determine the extent of the break.
I'm really not sure what kind of break you have, if it's clean .. then you might be able to get away with a splint. What you need to do is put a rigid splint on the bottom of your finger, notice how the finger rests naturally (without any extension) when you lay your palm on a flat surface.
Wrap it lightly, without much pressure, and try to make the splint extend past the end of your finger.
If the break has also dislocated the bone, you will need to set it. This requires you to put the bone back into it's normal place.
If you're serious about doing this, I reccomend you hit google for some anatomy diagrams, and emergency medical walkthroughs.. The images that will come up through the search will be a better help than I am..
Disclaimer : I assume no responsibility for you trying to DIY a broken bone fix, good luck though.

I broke my pinky finger on my left hand, no health insurance, I cant afford to go to the doctor, What do I do?
It only hurts if I try to bend it. I'm taking Ibuprophen. Cut it off? Live with it?

Yesterday i was on the trampoline, we were tripping each other for fun when my friend tripped me. I put out my hands to try and stop my fall but my pinky bent all the way back. I was crying in pain. Now my finger is swollen at the knuckle and i cant bend it backwards and it hurts when i bend it forwards. Also my bone is sticking out at the knuckle. My mom thinks its nothing so she doesn't want me to get it checked. I dont know. Is it broken? Sprained? Or jammed? What should i do? PS we don't have ice.

if you are gonna play the doctor yourself thing... DO NOT just splint it... first let your hand rest, basically let it go limp... you'll see that the fingers have a natural bend to em... now, take some sort of splint to hold your pinky and ring finger together, tape em... try not to use the finger at all... actually make that the whole hand... i say that because alot of times its the HAND thats usually broken but it feels like its the finger... which is why i recommend you do what other people told you, go to a free clinic... but if you decide against that, don't use your hand for about a month, keep it imobile but, wash it and stuff... keep your finger taped... after a month, the fracture should be filled in, but still keep it taped for another two months...

Without an x-ray it is hard to tell but after a month splinting is not going to help. Probably wll take a few months to a year to get your full range of motion back and might be bent a bit permanently. Just keep working it out, by opening/closing your hand.

Put the finger in a splint & look for a low-cost, sliding scale health center in your area.
It's important that you get it seen by a doctor or physician assistant @ a local clinic to make sure it is set correctly.

Tape it to your ring finger (get someone to help) and try to keep it immobilized. I broke my pinky once too and really there's not much they can do for it anyhow. Broken fingers and toes don't have a lot of options except mainly just to keep them from moving as much as possible while the bones heal.
All they did for me (and I had insurance) was tape it to my ring finger tightly and then Ace bandage me up. I have a crooked pinky now and it has in no way impeded my life.
