It means that somebody is either angry at you or just plain angry. Haven't you ever seen symbols like that before? They are generally used to depict curse words or extreme anger.

Just one other possibility beside the ones already mentioned. It could be the message was sent in a different encoding or language that the one you're using. For instance, when I receive a message in a language besides English, I have to switch the encoding (under Page settings) in order to see the letters displayed properly. If I don't switch, it looks like B?LL][? or something like that.
