My Betta refuses to eat fish food (dried worms, pellets), but he will gobble up chicken. This is the only food he will eat. Regular fish food will not be touched. Is chicken ok to feed him? Is this healthy for a Betta?

It isn't really healthy, but it is okay. Fish can go more than a week without food, so try not feeding him for a few days, and then slowly giving him 3 pellets twice a day. He will either starve or eat the pellets (animals will always end up taking the food due to their survival instinct). The best way to get him to eat food other than chicken is to just take the chicken away. Use the dried bloodworms as a weekly treat. Email me if you have any questions.

It's not the best thing for a fish as it contains different fats and nutrients that he would normally get in his diet. Land-based animals in general are not the best things for fish as their source of protein, but even so, a little won't hurt.

He may not be eating the dried worms and pellets because they're too hard and too large to swallow right away (the chicken in moist and flexible). Try soaking them in a bottle cap with a little tank water for about a minute before you feed these to him and see if he'll eat his betta food then..

Also, if you have any standing water (clean) around you, you might find live mosquito larvae - my bettas enjoy chasing and eating these.

You can also try frozen bloodworms (better nutritionally than the freeze-dried) or frozen daphnia. Mine also get a little piece of a cooked pea once a week to prevent constipation, to which bettas can be prone. A good variety provides a better mix of nutrients for fish, just as it does in humans!

Try feeding him live food like mosquito larvae, feeder fish fry, or brine shrmps.
