I think there should be less enthusiasm for the global market, and more protection from it.
The argument is generally made that this raises prices and discourages economic development.
The real value of low prices and economic development is questionable however.
They come with stagnation of domestic wages, the loss of domestic skills and industries, a lack of safety regulations for imported products.
American workers are left with enough money to buy all the lead tainted hot wheels cars they want from Wal Mart.
Meanwhile, the cost of such inconsequential items as medical care, higher education, food, energy, housing, rises somewhat faster than the inflation rate for lead tainted hot wheels cars from Wal mart might suggest that it would.
Economic arguments that focus solely on the importance of prices exclusive of wages, or vice versa, are deceptive.
Likewise arguments that emphasize the importance of economic development exclusive of the interests of domestic workers, should be more closely examined.

Yes, especially when much of the outsourcing is done in the US with Companies with no-bid government contracts using illegals as labor!
"Businesses are so oppressed because of the liberals that it's often necessary. If the Democrats rise to power, the economy will become destroyed and the country will fall apart" What a total crock. You have been in power for 12 years ansd 7 with a president who believes in war corporate welfare!

It would be nice if they could but people demand good products at low prices and sometime it is necessary to buy their products from other countries in order to make a profit and still keep prices low.;
We need to abolish personal income taxes so people have more money to spend and charge a tax upon the sales of all products sold regardless of where they are made with deductions for things such as wages, shipping costs and the like. If we did this, we could abolish all foreign aid - which goes to support a government which will later turn against us - think Castro, Hussein, and several other leaders we supplied the money to put into office. If we wanted to help the economy of a nation we could offer further deductions to companies which will produce a product in that country hiring their citizens. Americans would have more money to buy products, pay less taxes which now go for foreign aid , and the citizens of those countries would have more reason to think Americans not so bad after all.

Only if they can tear up the NAFTA treaty. Bill Clinton signed it and it really screwed the American public. We should have all listened to Ross Perot (when both the Republicans and Democrats made fun of him) when he said there was going to be a giant sucking sound as our factories and jobs left for Mexico. He was so right.
