pregnancy test and the first line showed up and in the area for the second line-the line is there but its really faded and hard to see. Does this mean shes pregnant?

Because we don't know what type or brand of test it was, or when your friend read her results it's hard to say.
Check the instruction sheet that came in the box with the test.
Better yet, see a doctor.

If the second line is faint, chances are she is pregnant. She should retest in a few days. If she is pregnant, the pregnancy hormone will double each day, making the line more visible if she tests at a later time. It could have been an evaporation line if she waited too long to read the results. Have her wait a few days and retest. Make sure she reads the results after 3 minutes. Results after that time are invalid.

It's possible that she may be in the very early stages of pregnancy (the second line shows up when the reagent on the test strip reacts with beta-hCG, a hormone produced in pregnancy). In the early stages, beta-hCG is very low, but then it rises rapidly. I would advise her to take a second test in a few days.
Also, if she took the test before her period was due, she again could be in the very early stages of pregnancy, so it's possible not enough hormone is present to strongly react with the reagent.
Remember, even though they are VERY accurate, pregnancy tests have been wrong!

Yes any line no matter how faint is to be determined as yes you are pregnant and should seek medical attention. You should tell your friend to make an appointment with a gynecologist

yes! any line is a positive, no matter how faint. especially if it is early in the pregnancy because there is just less of the hormone. false positives are very rare.

it really really really depends on the test
for instance
a test that reads [ | ] (+) is a positive in some brands
a test reading [ | ] [ | ] could also be a positive
read instructions
and remember if you know what you are looking for and the line is light that is still a positive

it depends if she looked at it 5 minutes after or an hour later but if there is a line there she would most probably be pregnant

it might be and she just took it to early or maybe a false reading. maybe she should try in another weekor just go to the doctor
