This is for fun, people! Please look at it that way!

She’s always complaining that he leaves the toilet seat up after taking a pee. She claims if he were respectful to her he would put it back down after he’s finished.

He says she’s being just as disrespectful expecting him to leave the toilet seat down because he would have to raise it again to use it. And he says if she were really respectful to him she would raise it after she was finished using the toilet.

Can philosophy be applied to each or either viewpoint?

Have fun.

At issue here, if you think about it, is the limitations of definitions.

Yes it can in my opinion because this argument would be classically that which is called inductive reasoning rather than that of deductive reasoning.

It is using inductive reasoning to justify induction, and as such is a circular argument.

Of course philosophy can help; you just have to ask the right questions.

So here's a few for the GUYS.

Question #1:

It's 5AM.
Standing before you is a pissed off, half naked woman with toilet water dripping off her butt.

Should you:

A) Apologize, and say you will make an effort to put the seat down after you pee.

B) Let the woman know how stupid she is for not checking.

Question #2:

There is a part of your woman's body that you love to kiss and touch, and she asks you to help her avoid dipping it in toilet water.

Should you consider this:

A) A reasonable request.

B) A sign of disrespect.

Question #3:

You have just demo stated you are an UNLOVING, INCONSIDERATE & BONEHEADED jerk by answering 'B' on either of the previous questions.

Should you:

A) Go back and change your answers to 'A'

B) Just admit heterosexuality is not for you.

I think that b/c the guy has to take the time to raise the seat before he pees than the woman should have to take the time to put it back down before she goes. It would make things even and fair. Why should the guy have to do all of the work?

I seriously can't understand why women moan at men for doing so!
I just put the seat back down and that is that, you could say I'm a rare breed of woman lol.

I can't think of anything philosophical for each gender though sorry.

Yes it can. She wishes to brow beat him like most women have into doing her bidding and he want her to reconize that she is not helpless and can put the seat down her self. or he is just ignoring her and think DAMN SHE IS LAZY.
