This is for fun, people! Please look at it that way!

She complains to him all the time because he is always leaving doors open or forgetting to close them: cabinet doors, bathroom doors, closet doors, etc.

His retort is ‘Why should I worry or bother with closing them when we’ll just have to open them again?’ I’m just saving us time.”

Sounds simple. But is it? Imagine this as an issue beyond the home. You want to apply your vision of philosophy to this argument?

At issue, if you think about it, is standards and boundaries.

Joyful, it is a true joy to hear from you again. I'm just mind playing, hoping for inspiration to start painting again.

Circles are circles.

Well, the retort is simple enough....

Because doors are for opening AND closing. To not close them ever is to bring into question why there is a door present at all. The door must have a purpose if it is to continue, much like a boyfriend must continue to be kind, courteous, thoughtful and generous in his actions towards his significant other if he is to continue in the identify of boyfriend....

Good one, Wats. If you get the chance, you must see the one-man play "Defending the Caveman" - he explains it all plainly.

I've entertained this sort of conversation in the past - it's like a Martian arguing with a revolving door.

But here it is in its nakedness... "He" is just showing how clever he is at prolonging a circular argument in an effort to justify his motives (read: laziness). "She" sees right through it and nails him with the truth. He doesn't like the truth, nor does he like being called lazy... in the next round, he finds something about Her that annoys Him, to even out the score.

And the door keeps revolving until someone shoves their arm out and says "Stop!"

Life's too short. Close the freakin' doors (and put the lid down while you're at it). Orderliness makes her happy - why does he put so much effort into thwarting happiness in his own home?

Edit: it's not about standards and boundaries. It's about playing nice together when you share the same sandbox.

Edit2: ahhh my friend... there will be no painting done tonight when there is entertainment to be had. I vote for Michael's sensible answer.

Lol I always get told off for leaving the living room doors wide open in winter when the gas heater is on.
Anyway....
Both of them are correct in their own ways but the guy should be more respectful.

Sorry that isn't philosophical enough but my mind doesn't want to be philosophical atm lol.
