i know for a fact that i'm not pretty, but i've had some experiences where a guy on the street just tells me that i'm beautiful. i always have a feeling that they're lying to me, but then i think...why would they lie to someone they don't know? so if someone said that you, would you think that he was hitting on you, paying you a compliment, or lying for the fun of it?

Well beauty has different faces to different people. You can't say one thing is beautiful because it may be for you but for the others not....and the opposite. So when someone tells you you are beautiful that means that this guy really thinks you are. What's more you might think you are not beautiful but the people around you might have the completely opposit opinion so don't make such judgements for yourself;)

I Would Accept It As A Compliment And If You Cross Paths With Someone And They Tell You That You Are Beautiful Then Maybe You Should Consider It Because Its More Than Likely True....

Before I give you an answer, I want to take time to remind you that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What's more, we are quite naturally over-critical of our own appearance. It's also easy to read too much into what people say to you.
You can usually tell if a guy is hitting on you, or taunting you(lying for the fun of it) by the look in his eye.
If he's genuinely paying you a compliment you'll know by his demeanor-the way he carries himself.

So I say they're paying you a compliment, let's see what everyone else tells you.

Later
Good luck

I would'nt think they were joking unless they laughed afterwards. And even in that case, it's a lame joke at that. Two girls in my 10th grade class once tried to "insult" me by calling me "pretty in pink" when I wore a pink blouse. As much as they thought it was some sort of insult I took it as a full-on compliment. As they continued to laugh, no one else in class even got the joke.

When I was a teen, I used to be shocked if a guy called me "gorgeous" or something because the boys at school never said anything. But I realized that strangers are not obligated to say anything to you, let alone tell you you're beautiful. Odds are they just think you're beautiful. it's a compliment. It's possible that the only one who thinks you're aren't beautiful is yourself and you can change. There are times when we should ignore what people say and there other times when the voice of others is a wake up call.

You are beautiful no matter what anyway. its not what is on the outside, its what is on the inside. when a stranger walks up to you and tells u that ur beautiful, yes take it as a compliment, but you also have to think there are a lot of crazy people out there and they will say and do anything to get in the bed. no offense, you are probably a beautiful, but be careful. there are too many things that happen to good people these days babe. good luck and just remember YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Hundreds of strangers pass each other everyday, every minute....all on their way to different places for different things.... If one goes out of their way, despite the fact that they dont know you, to tell you that you're beautiful then be happy. I actually like when guys do that more than when they ask for my number etc. It says a lot about a man when they can tell you that but keep it moving. The whole ''whats your name can I have your number'' thing gets very tiring. And dont say you're not pretty. Everyone is beautiful! Do not put yourself down like that! Its okay to take the compliments. Smile and give them your thanks :)

I am not trying to be harsh but just cause you have low self esteem and think low of yourself does not mean that everyone picks up on it. So he may actually think you are beautiful , it not his fault that you think that you arent. Jusy cause you say something is a fact does make it truth. The fact is that you think you are not pretty when the truth may be that you are absolutely beautiful. Years ago facts were no man had ever walked on the moon, however truth is today many have. Maybe you should check your facts.

They won't just stop to say something they don't mean.

1. Either they feel you're beautiful so much that they had to go out of their way and tell you.

2. They are hitting on you = they think you're beautiful.

3. Both points above :)

Accept the compliment graciously and don't make much of it. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Every one is beautiful at times.
