it is the standard hollow door that you find in most houses. how do i anchor it to the door. t seems to me that anchors like i use to hang pictures on sheet rock will not work the same , because the door is thinner.

Yes, Molly's will work. However, at Wal-Mart and Home Depot, they sell some special anchors that go into your hollow door that then go down the inside of your door, flat against the wood. You then screw the mirror bracket's screws directly into them. They come in different support wieghts such as able to hold 8, 15, 25 and 40 plus pounds of mirror or picture weight.

I have used these for the very same thing you are needing them for. A home depot man showed me them, and they worked great.

Mollys are designed to be used for a particular thickness range, so you need mollys for a very thin (1/16 - 1/8). Because the door skin is a relatively weak surface, you may need to use more braces that you would hanging the mirror on the wall - mirrors can be heavy.

Forget the "mollies" and get the "Butterflies" you can get them in very small sizes at a lumberyard, replace the screws you got with the brackets with the butterflies. I've done it. I've also hung pictures with these. You can't get Mollies small enough for this.
