My period was due two days ago. I took a pregnancy test that night and it was negative. Okay, no problem. Had agonizing cramps all day yesterday and I thought, alright, my period is just late. But it didn't come! And here it is the next day, and it still hasn't come. I just took another pregnancy test and again, it was negative. I've never missed a period in my life, but it was so strange to have such terrible cramps all day yesterday and still not be getting my period. Has anyone had these symptoms before and found out they were pregnant even after two neg preg tests? Could I just be really late - but if so, why the cramps yesterday? It's all very strange...

thanks to everyone for their help - just to answer a few questions - I've been off the pill for five months now, I'm 36 and trying to get pregnant (second one for me) and no, not any more stress than usual. So not sure what's really going on.

It could be stress that making you late, your body wants to start hence the cramps but it can't. It could very well be pregnancy because some preg test cannot detect that protein (HCG) in your urine too early in the pregnancy. If you workout a lot or are very athletic that can make your period late or not show up at all. I hope this helps a little.

I always get cramps right before I'm about the start my period. Also if you're stressing yourself out then that could be a reason why your period is late. Last year when I started my new job full time and went to school full time I was so stressed and my period was over a week late because of it. If you took a pregnancy test and it says your not pregnant you're most likely not because tests now days can tell you 5 days before your missed period. Just calm down and wait for it to come.

As a healthcare provider I can tell you that missing a period can be a normal happening. Stress alone can make a girl miss her period. Yes, you could be very late. And.....you could be pregnant. A pregnancy test could be inaccurate this early. Wait a little longer and try a test again to be sure. You know, I've always said I hated periods.....until I missed one. Are you using birth control? Maybe you are just missing a period.....and if this is true....take this as a warning. Protect yourself well. Remeber this feeling the next time you are in the heat of passion and tempted to not use a condom.

I've been on the pill for years, so my period is regular, but without such chemical assistance, anything can screw up your period. Stress, changes in diet, anything that can adjust your hormones can delay your period. That sounds like the case because of the horrible cramps.
Just chill out for a week or two and if your period hasn't come, try the pregnancy test again.

If you never missed a period before or it has never been late, you should go to a doctor. Sometimes pregnancy tests are not so accurate. Another posibility is that you have some medical problem, the doctor will also take care of that.
Now, most women are not so exact about their period, it may be normal. And I always get cramps before having it.

This happens sometimes, and it is usually from a small ovarian cyst; the cycle will be delayed, even thought the prostaglandins are causing cramping. Usually, the period will be 4-7days late. Occasionally, you 'miss' an ovulation, and it can be 2-4 weeks before you see your cycle. Just be sure that the symptoms are not explained by being pregnant - take a test when you are one week late.

There are so many factors that could play into a late cycle. Have you been under stress lately? Are you on a diet? Have you missed any of your birth control pills? (if you are on them) How old are you? If you do not have a cycle after 2 weeks being late visit the doctor for a pregnacy test, They can take a blood sample which can determine if you are or if you are not

You could still be pregnant. I went to the clinic because I had not gotten my period. I was given a urine and blood test. The results were negative. I went back one week later because I still had not had my period. I was told I was pregnant. When I went to see the doctor he told me I was 6 weeks. You could be stressed.
