It's no where near the same quality, but there is a device driver called pc speaker that can turn your pc's click click speaker into a sound card like speaker, but again, because it is at the very basic clicking rapidly to produce the correct sounds, it has no mixing and no synthesizing, so your cpu would have to do all this making the sound slower, or lower quality.

It worked on my 486 though to give me sound for games that normally required a sound blaster, but due the the 486 speed, sometimes the games would slow up, or the sound got choppy. Modern cpus should have no trouble keeping up though.

Matty:

I don't know were you live but some computer stores such as the ones below in my neck of the wood:

Arranged by cheaper prices:

weird stuff, (Surplus store) Santa Clara)
Surplus Computers (of Santa Clara )
frys eletronics (San Jose)
Best Buy ( All over thenation)
Ebay ( Internet)

have fairly cheap sound card. If you really want to pay less money perhaps, ebay is your best bet. Double check the vendor history for happy clients and also the amount he will charge you for shipping.

One final note.. most computers nowdays do come with Sounds cards, please double check if yours does come with one. Perhaps it is just disabled on the control panel /system/ Hardware/Device manager/ ... perhaps is there but just disabled? In this case just enabled it (right click on it and choose enable). If is there and you enable it but still does not work, download the driver and reinstall it.

Good luck with your search.

A sound card (also known as an audio card) is a computer expansion card that facilitates the input and output of audio signals to/from a computer under control of computer programs. Typical uses of sound cards include providing the audio component for multimedia applications such as music composition, editing video or audio, presentation/education, and entertainment (games). Many computers have sound capabilities built in, while others require additional expansion cards to provide for audio capability.

Ok you just got it fixed? Did it have sound before that? Have you ever had sound before on this computer? If yes. my guess is you just need to install drivers for the sound card or chip you have. I really doubt your mobo has no sound chip on it.

Good Luck

If it had a sound card before you got it fixed, go back to the engineer and get him to sort it out.

in the experience that your laptop does not understand what Sound card that's than specific you may open up the case and look on the board. you additionally can choose to look on the bill that the laptop got here with, that still will record it.
