my boyfriend leaves his phone in the car when we go out to dinner. At first I thought it was kinda strange, but now I see it as respectful. Not answering calls or texts while on a date shows that the person you are with is important. The only time I'll answer a call is if it's a family member. Anyone else will understand if I call them back later....

If my kids were home alone (my oldest is 17) I would look to see what number is showing. I keep it on vibrate. But no, I do not take calls or text! I think that would be incredibly rude.

No, it is common courtesty not to. To engage in phone conversation or text messages (albeit even for a minute) shows you're not paying attention to your date and takes time away that you should spend with them.
