What spurred the Americans' obsession with progress and success in business?

Wow thats a tuffy, if someone what'd to ask that honestly they'd have to take it so far back, you could trace it back right smack dab at the beganing (when man discovered agriculture), or you could say that it was due to the very fundemental fact that America is BUILT on those very ideals. Its very survival is based on independent progress BY the success of business. This could be traced back to trading goods with england and us not wanting them to tax us. Which expressed for the frist time, a body of people (just being able to) cut ties with its mother country. Which is a consequence for almost ever American whose been here more then two generations. With no mother country to give you hertiage, a legacy, all you've got left is that what the new country can give. Which is individual progress thru successful business.... hope that helps some, lol.....
