What should I expect? Does it hurt?

Hi,

It is only slightly uncomfortable. Just a little bit of pressure. It doesn't take very long either. Probably no more than ten minutes. The discomfort is about equivalent to getting a pap smear done, if you've ever had that.

They ask you to drink A LOT of water beforehand, because it allows them to see the images easier. The discomfort basically stems from them putting pressure on your full bladder. The gel they use might be a little cold too. I've gotten it done twice; the first time they warmed the gel for me, but the second time they didn't.

It's not bad at all, from my experience :)

I am 12 weeks now and I have had this done twice. This is the same as a normal ultrasound, however more effective. My sonographer started by looking from the outside, and said she would get a clearer pic from the inside. This is because they are in there and much closer. They will use a long rod (no wider than a small carrot) and they will ask you to spread your legs just slightly. My sonographer never looked or anything, she put a large sheet over my lap and legs... sorry for the details, but at least you are aware!! It was great and I would recommend it because I could see more and yes we could see (not hear) a heart beat - the heart beat will depend on how far you are thought. I was 8 weeks when I first saw it. Generally between 6 and 8 weeks you will see, but do not get upset if you are only like 6 and do not see it... this is common! Good Luck

I've had one. It didn't hurt per say, but it was uncomfortable really. There were some times where it did hurt, but it wasn't a constant pain, just when it touched a tender spot. Basically what happens is they take this device (it looks like a wand), put something like a condom on, it's lubricated, and then they usually have you help insert it so that you can control how hard it's pressed in and all that, one it's inside the tech is able to explore around more closely what they are looking for. I had ovarian cysts so that's what they were looking for with me.

Any woman who has been pregnant has had an ultrasound. You will go in and be ask to remove your top You will lie on a table they will lower the lights and put some jell on your stomach The ultrasound will look like a small peice of plastic with a wire comming from it they will put it aganst your lower abdomen and may have to press just slightly. unless your stomach is sore you will only feel a slight pressure..NO PAIN!!! its a pretty simple procedure and wont hurt a bit. no needles involved

Yes last two months ago. To see if my right ovarian cyst is still there.
Trans-vaginal ultrasound maybe some to women are uncomfortable.
For me not really.
You'll just feel the instrument use moving inside, cold in sometimes but painless..
It uses lubricant before it is inserted to your vaginal, so you won't get hurt.
Don't worry about it.
Good luck

They use a thin rod covered with a condom to check the uterus or the ovaries through the inside of the vaginal walls, and no it is not painful, they are careful and very gentle so don't be nervous. You will be asked to undress from the waist down, lay down on your back, they cover you with a sheet and do the exam. It's quick and over before you know it.

No more than a regular pelvic exam. You will lie down on a table with your knees bent and feet in stirrups. The health care provider will place a probe, called a transducer, into the vagina. The probe is covered with a condom and a gel. It doesn't hurt at all.

you have to have one if you can,t get a very good picture abdominally it is like a sort of long probe and is moved about it shouldn,t hurt unless you are very sore and tender because of an underlying condition, try to relax by breathing deeply and let them know if it does hurt but it should be no more than discomfort no worse than a smear test.

Yes I have had one twice for ovarian cysts. it doesn't hurt. You can feel the device moving in you when they turn to get different angles on a scan but it doesn't hurt. You feel more during a papsmear.
