I ask because so many of them say that liberals are "emboldening the enemy" and "losing the war on terror" because we are opposed to the war in Iraq. Are cons suddenly touchy-feely believers in the power of positive thinking? I thought that was a liberal thing. No?
I've always thought that wars are won by intelligent strategizing and well-planned execution of those strategies. I didn't think U.S. soldiers were issued ruby slippers with their uniforms so they could click them together and wish real hard.
Was I wrong?

It is not that they believe that wishful thinking will actually win the war.......They just believe that we are stupid enough to believe their wishful thoughts.....They are counting on us being led along by our fears (that they keep in the forefront of our minds).
There is no war to be won or lost here.......Just people to be manipulated..........

No cons believe wishful thinking will win a war. Yes Bush's plan was not good, and he waited way too long to change it. Name one thing the democrats in Congress have done to try to WIN the war? Since you are the one who brought up winning the war, how does telling our enemies that our troops can't win and have already lost help us to win? How does telling our enemies that our troops terrorize women and children help us win? How does telling our enemies our troops are murdering innocent civilians help us win? How does telling our enemies that we torture captives and that we only invaded to steal Iraq's oil help us win? The democrats in Congress want so bad to see us lose while Bush is still president so that they can gain more seats. Maybe they should work on a plan to WIN, so that our troops can leave Iraq. Would that be so bad?

honestly you are both right/wrong. stick with me here......true it is very difficult to win a war without at least some sensible strategy , like the japeneese in WII, all the heart but at some point you cant just run at a mach nest......on the other hand you can have all the strategy you want but without the heart your going to loose.....like the german mercenaries (WWI).....or the french army. The reality is terrorism is a real threat no one can argue this.....9/11.......and to think that it wont effect you here is silliness....so even IF you dont want our troops in Iraq is it really that smart to discourage them and spit at them when the come home, or refuse them service at starbucks??? no no no.....vietnam war ....USA society complained the troops home and now they are a communist influence on N korea which is now having neucler talks with Iran.

No what ever source you git your info from do they EVER say anything good happened anywhere.
If it bleeds it leads.
Have you seen that in certain areas in Northern Iraq ( where the Kurds live, whats left of them) they are actually starting Tourist ventures. And keeping the terrorist out.
You will never see these stories in the MSM.
Did you know that no one was raped in government sanctioned rape rooms today.
No school girls were delivered to Usay or Quday today.
No it isn't perfect by a long way yet.
Do you remember when the Iraq's had the first election and a young lady was asked how long she had waited to vote.
Her answer 2,500 years. made my little 45 minutes in line seem trivial.

Your second paragraph describes a situation that has never had to endure a constant drumbeat of negativism from the liberal press. An intelligent strategy with well-planned execution is described in no more detail than how many Americans died today. The enemy learned from the Vietnam experience (unlike us) that to beat America...all you have to do is break the will to fight through our complicit media.

Republicans aren't really interested in winning the war. Did you hear how much Blackwater is making? As long as there is money to be made it's stay the course.

Liberals ARE emboldening the enemy. Do you not think that the enemy sees all the anti-American rhetoric being flung by the leftists?
Wars are won by superior firepower, strategy, intelligence, and, yes, the support of the people at home.

What wins wars is taking the utmost in violence to the enemy till that fighting makes the enemy rethink their position. Liberals don't have the stomach for that or the current elected officials for that matter. The liberal solution seems to be, hide your head in the sand and it will go away. THAT, policy hasn't worked in the past, nor will it now.

No, but liberals seem to think that terrorism will just go away if we don't pay any attention to it. We tried that in the 90s, and got 9-11 as a result.

No, but they think that using scare words and calling everyone that disagrees with them terrorists will win elections. It worked in '04, but not in '06. I think it took a few years, but the American people are finally catching on to what I knew in January 2003.
