I'm renting the main floor of a house, and the land lord pays for trash. Well, my original land lord sold the house. The new land lord switched to a new trash company...and my trash was no longer being picked up.

Here's a time line:

Week 1: My land lord called the trash company to let them know that my trash wasn't being picked up.

Week 2: My trash still didn't get picked up. The land lord called the trash company again.

Week 3: The trash company gave us a trash can with their logo on it, but they didn't take the trash.

Week 4: I had 4 trash cans full, sitting at the curb. But the trash company only took trash that was in the can with their logo on it.

So they won't take trash unless its in a can with their logo on it?? If that's the case, then they should not have waited so many weeks to give me a trash can...and because they didn't pick up my trash for so long, I had to use old cans, and that trash still hasn't been picked up! What am I supposed to do?

Thank you for responding. But I disafgree with one of the answers...My new land lord signed up for a new trash company (not the same company that we had with the previous land lord). There's no way that there could have been an outstanding balance.

Also, we only fill up one trash can a week. My land lord had to call the trash company twice. They said they would pick up our trash, but they didn't so it's not our fault that the trash got piled up. If they had been picking it up every week like they said they would, it would have only been one can a week...My land lord shouldn't have to pay extra for trash that they didn't pick up.

But then again, I have no way of knowing if the land lord paid the new company or set up an account like he said he did...I'm so frustrated. Thanks for all of the responses so far.

Your best bet is to call the trash company yourself directly and ask them that very question. Simply tell them what happend and ask what you can do. If they are jerks and say they will only pick up what is in their can then all you can do is either take your excess trash to the dump yourself or try to cram as much as possible into their can for each pickup until you get caught up.

I know this sucks, but really since you do not pay for the pickup you are at their mercy. If you paid for the pickup you could simply threaten to swich back to the other company and they would come running to get the trash so as not to lose you as a customer.

Sounds like your landlord just isn't trying hard enough to resolve this for you, but legally they don't have to.

There could have been a problem with your previous landlord not paying the full amount owed prior to the switch. The trash company has the right not to pick up if there is an outstanding balance. Also, they also have the right to pick up only one can which is what is being paid for. Your landlord may have to pay extra for the other three cans which will be considered a "special pickup."

B*tch. And don't stop. I would tell my landlord-who is responsible actually-to get it picked up or you will call the health department because the trash is attracting bugs and rodents.
The second company will not take the trash in the wrong receptacles. Trust me.
Your landlord didn't pay for trash pickup when they didn't pick up your trash and is telling you trash. . .
