I am a university student looking for plays to recommend for next year's season. Our class wants to find a comedy with a relatively large cast (8 and up), a classic (Shakespeare or Greek), and a contemporary drama (any size).

We have slightly more women than men, but it is about equal.

The musicals that will go with this season are possibly Titanic, Rent, Sweeney Todd, and Little Women.

Wassamatta the staff not competent to do the job? This letting the inmates run the asylum movement in our country is really bugging me. Now, i have some great ideas for you:

Comedy: Mornings at Seven by Paul Osbourn

Classic: Tiger at the Gates by Jean Giraudoux

Drama: Picnic by Wm. Inge or Death of a Salesman by Miller

Push for Rent for the musical!

The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged) (yes, it is misspelled on purpose) is a farcical comedy that condenses all 37 of Shakespeare's plays into a 1 1/2 hour performance. It's usually performed with a cast of 3 men, but my university is currently performing it with a cast of 9 (3 groups of 3 for the different scenes) and 6 of us are girls. It's a great one to do if you have a creative group, since it gives you a lot of room to play and improvise.

Nun Sense (a comedic musical) is a great one that usually gets a lot of laughs. It involves a group of nuns fund raising in order to get enough money to bury about fifty nuns who were killed by a food poisoning epidemic. (Their fund raising ironically involves selling cook books). This has a smaller cast.

Into the Woods (another comedic musical)- This is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's a dark comedy that brings different fairy tale figures into the same story. It derives much of its humor from defiling traditionally innocent figures. It's great.

A Patch of Blue (Contemporary, I guess)- a play involving a blind girl who falls in love with a black man in a place/time where that is not socially acceptable. One of my favorites; watch the movie with Sydney Portier too.

A Midsummer Night's Dream (Classic, Shakespeare) is always a crowd pleaser. Also, The Tempest.

Trojan Women
Antigone
All in the Timing by David Ives A series of one acts...you could have different people for each of the acts which would give everyone an opportunity. It is a scream!

well... I would recommend Legally Blonde the Musical. It has more women than men, it is a comedy, has a cast of more than 8, and in my book it is totally a classic! It is also set in college and you are doing your play in college so maybe people can relate. idk. but it also has a very good message in the end!! :]

why dont you start with shaw? they are comics and easy to practice.but i suggest you to write yourself in your own theatrical group. Noah Haidle is also an option, e.g Mr. Marmalade from Noa.
