This question is for people who think it is OKAY for teenagers (or older people) to trick-or-treat.

I have over a hundred trick-or-treaters come every year and about a third are teenagers. I have no problem with it and actually enjoy seeing them and their costumes. I don't think you're ever too old to trick-or-treat as long as you dress up and you're polite.

Since I see a lot of teens wondering if it's okay, I'd just like to reiterate that a lot of people think it's fine. So what's a good comeback for teenagers (and older people) when they get the "aren't you a little old to be trick-or-treating" comments?

Please offer something positive and witty. We don't need them to say rude things that only feed the naysayers.

I'm a teen and I honestly don't have problem with older people trick or treating. I do it every year with my friends.

Now that my parents aren't buying my costumes anymore, I'm starting to get a bit creative. Last year I dyed my hair black, wore a black dress shirt with the arms partially ripped off, a red tie and black jeans. And I borrowed my friends guitar and wore it around. I had a lot of compliments. With teens, its more about the originality and creativity than getting a boatload of candy.

Of course, we try not to take the fun away from the small kids that go. It's their holiday, and they should get to enjoy it like we did when we were that age. For this reason, I try to not go for as much candy in the earlier hours of the night so we don't spoil their fun. Instead, I'll mingle with the people on their porches. But after 9:00, the sugar is mine.

To answer your question, I have a great comeback:

"Well, would you rather me be egging houses and scaring the living crap out of little kids right now?"

Gets 'em every time.

I'm 15, this is my last year trick or treating. I am only still doing it because I have a 2 year ok brother i am taking with family. Tbh, I think 15 is the last year you should, but let teenagers hold on to a little bit more of there childhood, it wont be too long before they are forced to grow up. Kids grow up too fast nowadays it is good to slow down a little. Then again if you are over 12 YOU NEED TO HAVE A COSTUME.

You are never too old to dress up, have fun and be silly. That's the fun part, candy comes in a far second to goofing off with your friends. I'm dressing up but I'm handing out candy. This is the first year in forever that I have lived in town and can do this. If teens come I don't care. I would love to see their costumes and makeup. But as an adult I'm going to a halloween party at a bar and I am determined to win the costume contest. Halloween is for EVERYONE!!!! Whether your child is a year or you are middle age.

I am a paid costume and candy tester and I was the only size 16-18 large child employee who could wear it. I graduated form highschool early and am doing a thesis on trick or treaters from 8 to 80. I get paid gas mileage and by the # of houses I visit'
Hope this helps

"I'm a CIA agent infiltrating a candy and costume ring. You're going to blow my cover so at least hand over some M&Ms."

"I have an overactive pituitary gland. I'm really only 5."

"I got held back about 8 times. I'm only in the 3rd grade."

Seriously, I live in a college town and the college kids come trick-or-treating. I don't mind though. Anyone in costume gets candy when they knock on my door. Most 10 year olds are taller than me anyway.

As a short adult, I get a kick out the teenagers who tower over me saying "Trick or Treat!" Some look a bit embarrassed, which is droll. Haven't had a rude one yet. As for a response to your question, how about "Mom and Dad are coming around soon in their costumes too ... and so is Grandma!"

i don't have a problem with it either, but so far, the best i have come up with is

"i was born on Feb. 29, so i'm really only 4 years old."
and i don't think that is what you are really looking for.

How about

"it's All Hallows Eve. I never heard of and age limit for a Hallow."

i sort of like
"I was cursed to wander the Earth, only on Halloween, for all time."

"I always feel like an eight year old on Halloween."

If you look sort of young or are really short, they probably wouldn't notice. But if they say something about it, you could reply by saying,

"Aren't you a little bit too old for that outfit?"
