Obviously confidence is key; however, what else is important?

A big part of it is that it is socially more acceptable for women to dance than men. Obviously that is not a hard and fast rule, but it cannot be denied.

Plus, women are simply made to be more graceful, considering the natural movement of their hips and spine.

It probably is. Girls can get away with imperfections under the name "cute" or with lack of confidence under the name "modest". That's why it's easier for a girl to go on the dance floor as a beginner.
Girls can already look good by doing nothing but standing there. Guys don't get free points for standing there looking handsome.

They have prettier outfits but it is more difficult for a man to stand out! So if a man looks good on the dance floor he is twice as good!

i personally think so.. i mean look at the perspectives..

girls: 1. get a pretty costume
2. are pretty doing nothing but standing
3. take performances more seriously

guys on the other hand have to work a little bit harder... but by any means there are TONS of great male dancers out there!
