Recently, I have bought a cover for my Razor cell phone. When I put the cover onto the phone, the reception immediately goes down to two bars, one and then sometimes none. Why does this happen? And is there anything I can do about it?

the razr antenna is inthe bottom of the phone in the back so if the cover is thick in that area you are blocking the reception there is nothing you can do except buy another cover, i like the plastic clear ones you can get them in tons of colors and they don't do what your's is doing.

The cover might be interfering with the receptor device if this is the only thing that contributes to the reception bars going down.

If you take it off and it still goes up or down, possibly you are in an area, mountains or by a dish (or lines) that will cause a conflict (which it does at my house a lot).

I would suggest taking it back, if possible, and possibly exchange to see if it works then. If not, might have to get a new phone or not have a cover.

Not if it is used correctly, like if you need to get hold of a parent, or an instance where you have to communicate with someone. The problem with this whole thing, is not the teens, or the phone, it is society, we use the phone for things it was not invented for, it is not and never was a substitute for actually visiting someone and having a talk. Phones were for communicating when you could not make a personal appearance, or for an emergency, now they are a device to create huge phone bills, and make the user a nuisance to others, (especially drivers). But if used correctly, a teen can benefit form having a cell phone.

The best thing that you can do is to return it and ask the company for a new one with no extra charge since the one they gave you has defects, or try to get a refund and get a new cell phone from another company. This is better than tampering with the electronics if someone were to answer you with directions for opening up any pannels and working on it with a scew driver. The reason is because if you tamper with it and then still can not fix it, then the company will know if you try to return it for a reund. They will say that you will not get a refund because you tampered with it and then you will be out of money and you will still have to get a new cell phone and from another company anyway.

You might possibly be a distance away from the antenna tower? Or your "cover" might have metal in the case, like a metal belt clip. Certain ways you hold the phone during conversation reduce signal as well, your hand could cover the internal antenna and cause poor reception.

the cover is probably covering up the antenna, you could just take off the cover, or if you really like it, jut buy an antenna booster which is pretty cheap and they work for any phone, and that will probably fix up the reception problem

The cover is likely interfering with the receptor device. You may want to remove the cover if the problem persists.
