Hi,
I have the sure fire way to get free parking or at least you will only have to pay the $1.25 Muni Fare each way. The first place that comes to mind with free parking is the Beach Chalet at the end of GG Park at Ocean beach right off Fulton.
Now to avoid the parking fees. Ride Muni. Park off 19th Ave. in the inner Sun-Set near Judah. Catch the "N" Judah downtown, not the Ocean Beach way. The good part about the "N" Judah is it takes a long tunnel to get downtown, this cuts down on numbers of stops. Once you are down town you can use your transfer to ride the "F" Market out to the Wharf area, Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. So for a buck and a quarter you are now at the Wharf. The "F" Market is right above any of the "N" Judah stops. I like the Powell Street stop or you can go all the way to the Embarcadero. You can't miss the "F" line. All the cars are old and antiques. Like riding in history.
For your return trip just reverse the order. If you take the Bus or "F" line back make sure you get a transfer that way you get back on the "N" Judah using the transfer.
Good Luck and have fun

Best answer: Don't drive in SF! Take the MUNI down Columbus, get off anywhere, and eat! (That's North Beach). Walk a little, and you are in Chinatown. Grab a seat on the #38 Geary or the #1 California Muni routes, ride out to the Avenues, walk over to Clement, and eat from every nation on earth! Some restaurants in SF have valet parking, but not free. I know of one burger place that has about 5 parking spaces in a lot on Geary Blvd. That's it!

San Francisco is a great place to get some food. Ya parking can be annoying but there are still some restaurants with good food and cheap or free parking. Really depends on what kind of food.

There's usually plenty of on the street (meterless) parking around Basil on Folsom. I've never had a problem parking there.
