Sorry for your loss.

Average guinea pig life span is 4-7 years. Some pigs pass over the Rainbow Bridge at 1 year or less, weanlings as young as 2 months die for no apparent reason, we have a Texel Boar who is now 8 years old & still producing babies. Unfortunately you cannot predict how long your pig will live.

This is not uncommon with little pets. They instinctively try to hide any sign of illness, as predators would see this as a sign of weakness. Most likely your piggy was becoming sick for awhile, but hid the signs of it. It could have had cancer, metabolic disease, heart problems, etc. I bred g.p.'s for many years, and even with the best of care and daily handling, sometimes I could not detect illness and one day would just fine one gone. They say lifespan is 5-6 years, but I've lost them anywhere from 2-9 years. Sorry for your loss.
