Think about what getting rid of them would mean. It would mean all of the states would have the same time, but the that does not change when the sun rises or sets in a certain region.

For example, there is a 3 hour difference between Washington D.C. and L.A. at the moment. Let's assume that all times for the U.S. are set to EST.

If the sun rises in Washington D.C. at 7am, that means the sun will not rise in L.A. until 10am.

Is that practical for business? No

Likewise, if the sun sets at 9pm in Washington D.C., the sun would not set on the Califonia coast until midnight or later.

The time zones are necessary so that most commerce is done during daylight hours for that particular region.

The best way to get rid of the time zones is to halt the rotation of the Earth. That's the reason we have time zones so if we stop that we should be OK.

Seriously, think before you hit submit.

There is no good reason to eliminate them but many good reasons to keep them. writing to congressmen accomplishes nothing at all. I travel often from my home in San Francisco to New York. It would be chaos without time zones. Try to think about the full implications of removing time zones.
