I am a second year Computer Engineering Technology student and I am think about getting work in a recording studio, what you you recommend as far as education goes? The only recoding engineering program in my city is a specialization in a music diploma. I do not necessarily want to got school for 2 years to learn music engineering. I was think about learning more about the equipment and approach the positions as some who knows a bit about the equipment and can do basic troubleshooting.

This sounds more like an associate degree. Check your local junior colleges for a degree in this. Plus on the side, go to a music store and start playing around with the instruments, amps and sound boards. Or volunteer at a recording studio, kind of like an internship. Get some hands on experience. If you are good and a quick learner, they may even start paying you before you graduate. I don't think the recording industry is hung up on degrees like the computer industry.

I don't know what you have looked into at this point but the University of Miami has a Music Engineering Technology program that is the only one of its kind in the country I believe. My friend went there, got his degree and found a job in no time. It involves 1 year of coursework and then another year with one or two more courses and a written thesis. He said it was hard work but he learned a ton and it paid off well in the long run.
