The max it could take is 4 gb. It takes 1gb per slot and has 4 slots. Im using the 4gb for gaming. The only reason i asked because windows xp/vista 36bit could only read up to 4gb anything pass 4gb would not work. So im asking how much linux could read.

I would like to ask why you wish to had 4 gig of ram?

the Question is not how much ram is in Ubuntu there is no ram in Ubuntu, you see with linux operating system you can run Linux on 512 megs and use what ever memory your computer has

now how much ram will your computer system take? that is the question. so you need to ask Dell that. or read the motherboard manual to find out.

yea you will need to check the mobo's manufactureer and find out the specs of that. my mobo can hold 16gigs but 4gig ram sticks are like 600 bucks that is the prob.

you'll haev to find the make and model of your motherboard, the operating system dosnt limmit the ram, your mother board dose. (it's usually 1gb per slot for newer mother boards, and 512 for older ones)
