Yes, its only a TV SHOW. but whether we like it or not, those words would somehow directly or indirectly influence the people who heard or read it. It may not be offensive for you but for people who doesn't think like you, those words for them clearly degrades Filipino doctors.
Don't blame the Filipinos for asking an apology. Teri Hatcher's line may be intended as a joke, but even a "joke" can wound a "reputation". =)

yeah I heard about it. it was her line in the show. the doctor(white guy) said " you might be hitting menopause" Teri Hatchers character susan said " Can I just check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are not from some med school in the Philippines." That line was harsh but thats the thing. . . it was her line. Shes an actress that has to fill her contractual agreements. if you wanna get mad at someone, get mad at the writer. Teri Hatcher should only be stoned if she says she doesn't feel bad about having to say that line. you know what I mean? and from what I understand they have apologized. The only thing is is that it was only a 1 paragraph apology. Me personaly, it's good that they realize that what they said was wrong but one paragraph is not gonna make 30,000 offended petition signers happy

I am an American now loving in the Philippines... here's my opinion......
1. Teri is merely reading her line in a "entertainment" program (Phil citizens...IT AIN"T REAL LIFE) it's a frickin TV show!
2. Don't want the stigma of having bad Doctors and nurses?..... stop the corruption in your country such as the recent leakage of the test answers to the Nursing Board Exam!
3. The Doctors here make about the equivalent of the USA minimum wage....no wonder they scramble to go to the USA for work. And yes, many FAIL the required exam once there.
4. Calling it a RACIAL slur is insane....I suppose a movie about Philippines fighting Japan and Japan is made to look like the bad guy is racist? Are you insane? Again, its a movie.
5 There is reason why the Philippines refers to it's self as a "developing country" the new term for "3rd world.....this is your own self evaluation and it is true, so why are you upset at TERI when you created a country with this "incompetency" perception? TERI and the USA did not create that reality.
6. Less talk and more action is what the Phil needs.... I haven't had a straight answer to anything since I got here 3 years ago.
Yes I will be blasted for my comments, I know, and I can take it because it is only my opinion... and yes I am married to a Philippina, so I am not racist.... slam me if you will...but you know I make some good points here.

It's not just Teri Hatcher you should be upset with. She only read the lines given to her by the writers of the show. Frankly I think she's too dumb to realize the consequences of a line she read, rehearsed, and uttered on camera. Still, as a visible member of the show she should give some apology and do some charitable act as a conciliatory gesture. She can't erase what was said. You, however, CAN do a lot. Write to the network (www.abc.go.com) or (ABC, Inc./500 S. Buena Vista Street/Burbank CA 91521-4551) or call them at 818-460-7477 (they don't have a toll-free number). They tell in a respectful but forceful way how you feel and in what way you think they can rectify this injustice. You might suggest they put an apology at the end of the show. Also, write to the sponsors of the show and let them know you won't be using their products if they continue to support this kind of racism.

I am a Filipino doctor and I AM NOT offended by any remarks made on a TV series. Why should we filipinos make this thing into such a big issue with demands for an apology and protests and banning of the TV series? TV movies are works of fiction. Now it would be different if some high ranking politician in the U.S. said that filipinas are prostitutes then I guess all the japayukis and the putachings should protest that statement.

actually...Teri hatcher wasn't the only one....ages ago "Keith" from one tree hill also had a nasty comment about "Lucas's" tatoo he said "where did you get that?Philippines?" I'm a Filipino and I'm proud of it no matter what they all say..besides they aren't the ones living here....they wouldn't know...
its such a shame these people(scriptwriters)believe in what they see in the TVs or newspapers...not all Filipino doctors are that bad...actually only unlicensed doctors would make mistakes...i think!!
i really think its a petty reason to ban the show not only because i like the show...hehe but also because we cant just let those comments affect our lives....because we know it aint true and filipino doctors are one of the best...also nurses

I don't think SHE should apologize, the writers of the show should. She gets paid to dleiver the lines, not write them. The writers should be making an apology and I think maybe she should too for not protesting the line.

I believe that she needs to give a public apology to Filipino doctors. If they found it offensive, she needs to apologize whether she didn't mean for it to be offensive.
I would be angry at her too.

absolutely. though the producers and writers are mainly at fault, it was still irresponsible of her. seeing that she still read out the lines only implies that she's not at all bothered and doesn't care if there are thousands of Asian and Filipino viewers out there. or worse, she's a racist herself.
