The first major battle of the Civil War. A battle the Lincoln was forced to engage in due to politics. It was called Manassas by the Confederates. It was a total rout of the Yankees including all the people from the Washington area that came out, picnic, and watch the battle. It let the North know that this was probably going to be a long, long war.
Added info: The North named their battles after the closest river. The South named their battles after the nearest city.

Wee! I did a report on this in 4th grade.(got a b!, no fair!)
The battle of Bull Run was actually in Manassas. It was the first battle of the civil war. People thought the battle wouldn't be that violent and that the soldiers would just hit each other a few times and go home. But there was actually a lot of bloodshed.
