today i tried to put a cd in my laptop and it doesnt read it .and the light flashes and i can hear it trying to read it but its not and the housing above is cracked .and is it normal that you can push in your disk drive .someone please help

Lense is damaged. Get a new writter/reader. Fixing the current cd driver will cost you a lot. Better to get a new one.

Try a different CD. If that plays you may need to clean the CD drive (kits have a solution that you put on to an absorbent CD shaped disc). If the other works try cleaning the bad CD itself. If nothing works get a new drive. They often go on sale for about $39 so don't spend money getting it repaired.

There are supposed to be four little screws on the side of the CD drive that hold it in place so no you should not be able to move it in by pushing it. Take off the computer's side covers to access those screws.
