today i tried to put a cd in my laptop and it doesnt read it .and the light flashes and i can hear it trying to read it but its not and the housing above is cracked .and is it normal that you can push in your disk drive .someone please help

try upgrading the drivers for your DVD-r drive

First, try a different CD, if it reads a different one, then the CD itself is the issue. It may be the format of the CD you are trying to read, in other words are you trying to read a CDRW in an older model CDROM? Are you sure it's not a DVD? (I know, stupid questions but you never know)

If the housing is cracked, then it may well be time for a new CDROM.

In order for it to be the cracked housing, it must be a good size crack. Yes, it is normal for you to be able to push your disk drive in.

Try another disk and see. If it will not read them then be looking for a new cd-drive. Yours probably is bad. jerkputter

time for a new cd drive. they are cheaper now and rather easy to install, even for an old lady like me. how, by the way did the housing get cracked? hmmmmmm.....

may be done....check to see if all the housing wires are fitted and tight..may need a new rom how old is it?

Go to start and then select run and it should start then. Otherwise I don't know.
