Maybe cause you were still responsible for the content? If they assigned it before you got sick, you are.

Ok. Truth time, it's one of the most important steps in being an adult. You were sick for a week, what were you doing the rest of the marking period? ....and THAT is why you got the F. Maybe some missing assignments, failed tests, or poor quality work. Incomplete work or projects. You know why you got the F. Missing school for one week doesn't get you an F, there is often more to the story and we usually know what that is. Excused absenses are then followed by make up work, but if you do not turn the make up work in on time, you can't expect favors. Look, you know all this. Do better next time.
