explain why the equation "x+5=8" when x=3 is equivalant.

For 1-4, state the property being demonstrated for 7-10:
1= 3x(8X4)=(3x4)x3
2= (3) (8)= (8) (3)
3= 4+7=7+4
4= 8+(9+7)= (8+9)+7

first is equivalent because three is the only answer that makes both sides of the equation EQUAL.

next:
first one is NOT equal (3X32) is NOT equal to 12 times 3!! should first digit after the = sign be an 8?)
second IS equal
third IS equal
fourth is equal

the principle is that addition and multiplication are TRANSIENT meaning that regardless of the order of the numbers, the answer is the same IF THE DIGITS ARE THE SAME
