The baby also had some other problems and is not expected to make it. What causes downs and what are the chances it will happen the next time to them? They are such good people and they dont deserve this, they had no idea. They are also in their late 20's, I know down is more common in older couples.

there are 3 ''types'' of DS trisomy 21 (the most common) where all the cells in the body contain an extra 21st chromosome. Mosaic's where ther is only an extra 21st chromosome in some of the cells, and Edward's which is rare but children born with Edward's usually don't live for that long due to many medical problems. your comment about not expecting to make it...kind of makes me think it might be edward's syndrome, but that is just a guess. my son has T-21 and when he was born had a congenital heart defect called av-canal. he had open heart surgery at 4 months old to repair and is doing spectacular.
down syndrome can happen to anyone....1 out of 800 live births will have a child with DS. as for will it happen next time...no one can really answer that question except maybe a genetic counselor.
one thing in your question that really stood out "they are such good people and they don't deserve this". having a child with down sydnrome is not the end of the world sweetie. parents like me will tell you it is a blessing. we are given the opportunity to raise a child, sure they may be different from the ''norm'' but they are first and foremost our children. they love, learn, laugh, play and live fullfilling lives...for me I wouldn't change a thing about my son...he is the sunshine of my days. don't let societies view of children with disabilities sway you..get to know them. you will see that these children are special and the love of their parents lives. congratulate your friends on their baby you seem like a very caring person let them know you are there if they need you. down syndrome is not the end of the world...it is a begining. I truely hoped this helped answer your question.

Abort it and in no thank you to have yet another. each so often we has human get try from God and we would desire to think of earlier rushing to issues. I actual have a sister with down syndrome and all of us love her, in spite of the shown fact that I take pity on her of what she have been lacking a number of those years as she would be in a position to't stay a common real looking every person round her. She's an person and four ft tall and have been given a ideas of a six to 10 12 months previous. i know her discomfort and her frustrations. additionally My Brother and his spouse have a down syndrome newborn. He became transported to between the ultimate pediatric hospitals in NJ, they stay in PA. He became there for roughly 5 months. He has had quite a few procedures carried out, on his coronary heart, yet he's 3 years previous now, and is doing ok. He is going to college, he has speech training, and is an extremely energetic nicely rounded 3 12 months previous boy. Why decide on abortion? are not all infants human beings? I additionally think of Down Syndrome infants are wonderful. If a pregnant lady would not know any Down Syndrome infants perhaps she would desire to be allowed to fulfill some. normally human beings are maximum afraid of the unknown.

Down Syndrome is a result of chromosome abnormality, in chromosome #21. There's an extra copy of the chromosome.

Yes, the older (late 30's into 40's) you are the bigger the chance is to having a child with Down but it's not written in stone. It can happen to anyone in any age group.

I'd suggest they see a genetic counselor and have genetic testing to determine what their chances of having another child in the future with Down Syndrome is.

I dont know that much about Downs but thought I would chime in here since I saw a gal today with Downs. Her name is Sammy and she was working at Auntie Annes pretzels when I stopped there today. She was the most friendly, lovable person. Strangely enough, there is a young man also with Downs that works there too. He was handing out samples when I was at the mall a few days ago. Again, very friendly.
I wish your friends luck.
I also know a couple who has a downs daughter and I wont lie and say that is easy. They have many challenges with her, but she is adorable. They are still a person that needs treated with love and respect.

Downs usually happens either spontaneously or it's genetic. They can get tested to see if they carry it. If they don't carry the genes for Downs and they're pretty young then it's unlikely it will happen again.

down's is a chromasone (sp) abnormality. there is nothing they could have done to prevent this. It can happen to any couple, at any age.

Our preacher's daughter has down's and she is the most loveable child I have ever seen. She has been a blessing to all of us!.
