i have a dell inspiron 1501. I have 1.5GB of ram and recentely i have ordered new ram from newegg.com I took my 512MB stick out and put the new 1GB stick in. So now with the new stick i have the max amount of memory which is 2GB. the ram in the one slot is pc2-4200 the new ram i have is pc2-5300. Pc2-5300 is compatitble with my laptop but when i put it in my laptop overheats very badly. Why???????

well u shouldnt have mixed ram if u bought new u should have got the right stuff ..

Hi. The laptop should be able to handle the new RAM. Make sure the fans are working and the vents are not covered.
