Ok I have A dell inspiron531.amd athlon 64x2..does the 64means i have 64bit system..what makes a pc 64bit pc..i checked in my system properties and its says my system type is 32 bit..im confusedi dont know if its correct or not..cos i want to download Ubuntu..i dont know if i shud get 64 or 32

its only 32 bit because the windows you are using. you need to upgrade to Windows Vista 64 bit edition or windows XP Pro 64 bit edition. Right now, even though your computer is capable for 64 bit, the windows will like only allow it to go to 32 bit so windows upgrade time!

If i'm not mistaken, that means that your processor is 64 bit, but your installed OS is just 32 bit. I believe you would need to buy the 64 bit version separately.

right click on my computer/computer icon on th edesktop--select properties---click on hardware, here on the hardware window you would be able to see system information along with system type that will tell you either 32 bit or 64 bit system

Your hardware may be 64bit ready, but your software is running 32bit, no need to use 64bit as theres not much software that can make use of it as yet.
