Long earrings make a long face look longer, which is not necessarily a good idea, and a round face less round, which is a good idea.
If you want an idea of earrings with a long face, look at photos of Cher. She is a truly wonderful example of a long face (my SIL has a long face as well, so I get her earings that are in the same basic shapes that I like on Cher).

I think that round earrings go well with a round face shape. That is what my What You Wear Can Change Your Life book says. I think that they suggested chandellier earrings for a long face shape.

Long earrings would better fit a round face since it would give the illusion of a slightly longer face. Long earrings wouldn't flatter a person who has a long face, studs would be more fitting.

Round face because it pops out at just the right amount. With a long face the earings do not pop out as much and are more unnoticable.
