I live in a poor area near Cleveland. All these "poor" kids that the LIBERALS want to be put on a "free" healthcare program are seen by me walking to school everyday in $120 sneakers with a CELL PHONE on one side of their face, and an Ipod on the other.I would just like to know why these people who can afford such luxuries should be given "free" doctorin'?

Steve: There are kids who are living in abject poverty, but not the multitudes that proponents of these programs suggest.

Yes all these poor people have tattoos too. They are lazy idiots that deserve nothing, whatever color they are. They leach the system and if they do work spend it on stupid shiit. Welfare has ruined this country and people need to learn how to get off their asses and work. Either that or they sell drugs or steal everything. And people are such in denial.

The poor are seen everyday and they are not well dressed unless they find a good bargain at a Goodwill, Salvation Army, or a thrift store. Some of their clothing is hand me downs, some from garage sales.

My sons friends tend to take his clothes and forget to return them because they don't have enough clothes and their clothes are so worn out. Their parents work hard but can never get enough ahead to purchase clothes, nice possessions, or get them healthcare. These children do not qualify for healthcare because their parents make just a little bit too much at times. They end up working as soon as they can but often have to pitch in on their parents ever growing energy, gas, gasoline, and food bills. Some of them live with other relatives perhaps 10-15 people per two bedroom home and those are the ones who can afford more when they work. Their cell phones are pay in advance costing much more than your cell phone with the monthly plan so by the middle of the month the phone is off till they can afford to spend some more for the privilege of using it. If they are lucky, a charity provides them with something for Christmas so that they do not have to go totally without. They tend to eat one meal a day unless they get a free meal where they work or at school.

The quality of life has gone down dramatically. You should really get out and about more then really look while you are out. I remember a time when even the poor were able to dress nicely ( not expensively but nicely ) now I see people going into call centers looking like they haven't the means for good clothes because with the pay they receive they don't have the extra money.

The poorest part of the country the last time I checked (granted a few years ago) was actually what can be called appalachia. Also, a lot of the inner city is made up of a culture that has an inate twisted take on personal value the they place in "things." They are still poor. Their mothers are not going to the mall every weekend buying them these things. Most likely, she is stll working hard and scraping by. She might not even know they have them. And it is not just poor people that deserve free healthcare. Every individual has the basic human right to recieve care when needed. Ask Hippocrates.

As an LDS man or woman you think there is an age of accountability. youthful infants can't be held to blame for sins they can't understand. case in point, it would not be a sin for a a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old to scouse borrow a candy bar from yet another new child. The a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old would not know extra suited and desires to examine. the comparable good judgment applies, in accordance to LDS doctrine (convention talks), with psychological ailment. it would not be a sin for that man or woman to break a commandment they can't understand. Your quote from Apostle M Russell Ballard became from a verbal substitute addressing those situations while a man or woman isn't able to understanding their movements. He pronounced in basic terms God can choose what is going on interior that man or woman's strategies. I provide you a thumbs up on your previous reaction. Please undergo in strategies that lots of people who use the yahoo answer sight for religious questions, particularly have not got questions. All they are particularly finding for is a thank you to evangelise their ideals and criticize others.

try the inner city in Memphis... sure there may be a few dealers with cell phones and $120 sneakers...

but then you also have the family of kids that have to share on pair of shoes just to go to school... and only one kid can go a day because they all don't have shoes...

and are you poor? why do you live near a poor neighborhood?

I'm in highschool and I see the kids you talk about. But you obviously don't see the other side.

For example:
My cousin has a friend who's the one of the nicest person I've ever met, yet his family couldn't allways afford to pay the water and electric bill every time it came around. And he didn't wear $120 shoes. And there are many more poeple like him. My track coach told me stories of runners and footbal players who did homework during practice and open time during games/meets because they didn't have power to turn on lights. These are real people. And many of the people who need it don't let other's know about it.

Yeah and you know these are the poor kids how you follow them home? Plus every time I hear these generalizations then investigate they are almost ALWAYS a lie or second hand tales without verification, how do you know the shoes aren't $20.00 knock offs and the Ipods really $29.00 MP3 players I think you're full of manure

by the way this crap about getting on welfare for the free money is a freaking myth as well, it's limited as a matter of fact in many states the working poor have exhausted their limited benefits and are now turning to food pantries or have you forgotten the welfare reform of 1996 the welfare Queens Reagan extolled never really existed and are gone now anyway

This is a problem that is all over America. Americans complain they are not making enough money to pay bills, but they all have cell phones, high speed internet, new cars, HDTV, etc. These are not needed. If you subtract these non-essential items, there is plenty of money for all Americans to buy their own healthcare. In addition, wages earned are at all time highs.

Here is my theory. Everyone in this country should be making good money and go to college. Everyone is able to because they can take out loans. If you are poor here, you are lazy.

But I do support the health care for kids because it is not their fault that their parents are lazy.

Maybe you should actually go into Cleveland, I'm pretty sure you can find some poor people there. It must be nice looking at life through your eyes where you see no poor people in this country.
