I still like Leah, I also like Eliana or Ella, but Ella Jane sounds a little hillbilly to me.

I tend to put a lot of stock in the meaning and history of a name, but at the same time, the boy's name we have picked out is Wesley and means simply "the west meadow", its just that we like the name so much, and it is a family name, that the literal meaning isnt that important.

You might try names with Leah as a nick name. I personally love the name I think its really pretty and feminine.
The meaning would probably turn me off the name as well, though.
My husband and I considered Ashlea or Ashleah for the reason that it had Leah as a nickname.
You could also give her 2 middle names Something like Isabel Jane Leah.
If you like the more creative or creatively spelled names, then you could take almost any -ley name and make it a -lea or -leah name and just add a sylable to it;)
If you dont like the more unique names, then just decide how much you like the name, Im sure if you like it enough that will override the meaing

Well, if you really like Leah, use it! You don't see very many people being like this:
"Whats your name?"
"Leah Jane __"
"Oh, Leah means tired,weary."

Anyways, you could say it means tired and weary of the... war LOL or from waking up so early. Here are some similar names:
Layla
Miah
Tia
Nia
Giah
Alia
Lee
Lyn

I've actually looked up the meanings of all 110 of my (current) favorite names, and I don't particularly dislike any of them. It would really depend on how much I liked the name, whether I would drop it because of its meaning. For instance, I didn't mind the name Kennedy, but I found out that it means 'ugly head' and totally kicked it off my list. But if it had been one of my favorites, I would have given it a bit more consideration. I think meaning does play a pretty big role in the names I choose. Whenever I find one I like, the first thing I do is look up its meaning to make sure it's not something negative. That being said, though, I do like the name Cecelia, which means 'blind'. Really, it's all a matter of how much I like the name. Good question, though! ♠ Qüééñ

The meaning isn't that important, unless it means something horrid like pedophile or something of the like..... Look how popular the name Paige is, and it means "attendant". It's what the royal family's little household employees were called back in the day.

Sorry... but all the names you have listed may not actually mean "weary or tired", but that's what they are. That includes Jane.... maybe think a little outside of the box....

Well, a related name, Leala, means "loyal one". That's a lot better I'd say. Too bad about the meaning of Leah, as it's such a beautiful sounding name! I like all your other name choices as well.

Samantha Isabelle
Ella Eliana
Lauren Isabella
Lauren Eliana
Also,
Leala Isabel
Leila Samantha
Leala Eliana

They're all great! Good luck!

Yeah Leah is cute, and meaning doesn't matter, but i do love Samantha and Lauren. And I don't like Jane at all sorry.
But Samantha Lauren, Isabella Elise, or Lauren Eliana are great first and middle names, Also Leah Elizabeth is sweet.

It can, also, mean 'delicate'.
It's up to you whether the name's meanings are important or not.
Leah, in the Bible, was, apparently, Jacob's first wife and the mother of 7 children, so no wonder she was weary!

Personally, I'd go with Lauren (which comes from the Latin for bay or laurel plant).

What Does Leah Mean

2016-10-06 09:57:13 · answer #9 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

It doesn't matter. The only time I ever thought about meanings was when a woman I know named her daughter Zoe because it means life. It is a miracle she is alive, she almost lost her several times and she was born really early but lived. I don't even remember what the original name was going to be. Most people don't even know the meaning of their own name let alone anyone Else's.

If you love the name, then go for it! And, there will be times in her life that she will make you weary and tired!! I really love the name Eliana! Very pretty! Could you use Leah as a nick name??
