Generally speaking, the average professional female basketballer is not as physically strong as their male equivalent.
Theoretically, the smaller (and lighter) ball allows a greater rate of accuracy and from a further distance from the basket. That being said, from what I've heard there are players within the WNBA who are unhappy with the use of the smaller ball.
Your point about a woman making it into the NBA however is invalid. The disparity between the weakest player on the weakest team in the NBA and say Lauren Jackson is currently a rather large gap.
As sexist as this may seem, here's the reason for my opinion; several years ago the Opals (then ranked #2 in the world and lead by Michelle Timms) used to play practice matches against elite boys high school teams as preparation for international events. WNBL (the Australian equivalent of the WNBA) teams, which at the time included LJ and Penny Taylor, the current WNBA and World Championship MVP's respectively, would play against state championship level U16 junior mens teams in preparation for finals.
The argument you put forward for the reason a female will never be good enough to make the NBA is rather shallow and ill-thought.

Um, yes, the ball does make a huge difference. You see, women are much SMALLER than MEN, ESPECIALLY their hands and feet. Are you kidding me? Do you have any idea how large an NBA ball actually is? Do you think that WNBA players could control it? It's just too damn large. It would be impossible for WNBA players to shoot the ball due to not being able to CONTROL it. They would make 20% of their shots. It's already clear that they have difficulty controlling the current game ball...

Well just like everyone else said- women have smaller hands so they use a smaller ball.
In terms of women being on equal par with the men in terms of the level of play-- i think there is a reason that the women play against the women and the men play against the men.
The WNBA atheletes get paid pretty well- but they will not make the type of money that the men make because they are not as marketable (i mean if you had to spend $100 per ticket, would you spend it to see Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, etc. or to see Diana Taurasi, etc.???) The guys get paid what they get paid- because the fans fill up the seats. No disrespect to the WNBA --- but the level of play and entertainment is not on equal par with the men.
Not trying to be sexist- i think its great and as a hoops fan- if i have a daughter- i'm teaching her how to shoot and hope she can make it to the WNBA -- but let's keep it real- the best players in the WNBA would not be able to make it on any NBA roster.

I believe the ball size for the WNBA is 28 inch while the NBA ball size is 29 inch or at least that is what they sell at the retail stores. It's only a difference of an inch. Why bicker about it?

Its not a disgrace to women at all that they use a smaller ball. Women are just naturally smaller and weeker then men. But i believe the biggest reason is hand size. Women have much smaller hands than men so it is harder for them to be able to control or shoot a larger ball.

Well i guess it all comes down to this: do you want to help your team win the game or do you want to show good sportsmanship? I do think players should kick the ball out of play if a player is Injured, but at the same time,he could use that advantage to help his team score a goal and possibly win the game. It's extremely tough to say.

Because they would have a very difficult time handling the larger ball (hand size, obviously), and they wouldn't shoot 30 percent from outside with a bigger ball...Have you ever shot one of those smaller balls?
...contrary to one response on here, it makes one heck of a difference...There are guys in the NBA who would shoot better than 60 percent from three point land with that thing...I coached high school ball for 9 yrs, and I always had to watch out for the boys who liked to shoot that smaller ball in pickup games (just because it was so much easier to shoot with), because it would throw off their shooting with a regulation men's ball...makes a hell of a difference, and I speak from experience

Becuase America like all other countries is sexist. I understand the smaller court, but come on? The ball? Like it makes a difference. Most WNBA Players make their 3-point shots and most NBA Plyers don't. (eexcept Reggie Miller, and Allan Houston)
EDIT:Exactly what I mean, the person below me is saying sexist things. We all know women are smarter than men LOL.
