When our founding fathers forged the document on which this country was founded, it seems that many had slaves.

I'm not sure what else was wronged when it came to the Constitution versus the people, however; we could look at the Native Americans

We are only told what we read in our history books when it comes to Native Americans., True, the American Government has made amends to them.

In today's world, should the Constitution be changed to meet the needs of this everchanging world we live in now?

I guess I should have asked what would you change about the Constitution to fit the needs of the people today.

Isn't disarming the people the first step to a dictatorship?

Best Prez Ever--FDR must have been better because they wouldn't allow a President to remain in office longer than two terms after that.

It's being ignored....it needs no work, it is one of the greatest documents ever devised by men..it needs to be followed in all things it can be amended as needed and has. It should be taught in school in far greater depth.

No!...It needs to be adhered to, not manipulated to fit some socialist or fascist agenda.

And the 2nd Amendment is the most important, that is an undeniable fact, and history has proven it. Disarmament is ALWAYS the first step to dictatorship, tyranny, and oppression. If we lose the 2nd Amendment, then there is nothing, NOTHING, to stop our government from revoking the rest of our rights. Just look at Nazi Germany with Hitler and Communist Russia with Stalin, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The Constitution does not apply to the rest of the world, only the United States. World organizations would love to change our Constitution to trample our rights.

Finally, I'm a conservative and I don't think that the Constitution should be altered to include any ban on gay marriage or abortion. The federal government has no business in deciding those issues.

The Constitution of the United States was an inspired document created by men unequaled since. They had visions of a great nation and the problems that it would face, and they wrote a contract with the people that would keep a potentially runaway federal government under control.

Since then, activist judges have destroyed its safeguards, congress has disassembled its protections. i.e. 17th amendment that removed the power of the states to have representation, and a President who refuses to carry out the laws of the land and grabs for power the Founders were determined to keep from him.

The Constitution establishes the best form of government the world has ever known. We change it only into something that destroys our liberty.

I will take liberty any day over security!

You seem like a very uneducated person. You do realize that the Constitution can be amended (meaning changed). The Constitution is the greatest document ever written. What has Obama done to prove his intelligence? Before you play the race card: I hate Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Kennedy, etc also.

The Constitution has the ability to change itself through the process of amendments. Ex: the 13th amendment ended slavery. The Framers meant for the constitution to adjust itself. Such as the Necessary and Proper Clause.

The Constitution includes a process to change the Constitution when we need to do so. These changes are called Amendments. Actually read the Constitution instead of believing what America hating liberals tell you and you will see.

The Constitution as it is has made this a great country. It already allows change.

One of the greatest parts insures freedom OF religion, not FROM. If you don't like that, leave. That's your right.

It's the dishonest libs, not conservatives, trying to alter that part, along with taking away the rights of free speech and to own firearms.

Yes but it has been weakend and it favors the rich and powerful while ordinary US citizens have lost many rights and there is no such thing as effective protections from Wrongful Terminations because of the At-Will Employment.

The Constitution was made to be immutable and stand the test of time. Therefore, the processes involved in changing the Constitution are purposely VERY complex, and makes the change difficult to occur.

That said, the second amendment is completely unnecessary. It needs to go.

nope, it gave the world its first free country. its the socialists and warmongering, oil loving neo cons that need to be revamped. the constitution is not the problem. the problem is, it is not being followed. if it was being followed properly, this country would not have the problems it has today. fiat money, undeclared wars, corporate lobbyists, socialism. the constitution has the answer to fix all of these problems if the people in power would be forced to dust it off and actually read it before taking the oath. every politician except for a handful should be in jail. ron paul, dennis kucinich, chuck hagel are a few of the exceptions. notice i crossed party lines. i can disagree and respect them as long as they understand and follow the constitution.

hey jim, promote general welfare is totally different than PROVIDE general welfare. do you need a dictionary to know the difference?

It has a mechanism for that. It's called a Constitutional Amendment!

Do it the right way or leave it alone. We don't need any Hitlers!

Besides, if you look at our forefathers reasoning you would see that they were a hell of a lot smarter than most around today!

I only care about the US!
