I think there are many warnings from the past on not to destroy our civilizations from within to follow a certain code or law of ethics for the common good of man kind.......
The past is a warning and a learning lesson that we should heed from our ancestors and learn from the ancient days of civilization that will never change if we listen we will here the past speak to us and give us the answers so yes the answers are in out past if we listen truly :))) to the voices of the past :)) nice question thanks Sailman :))

Time as we know it in physics, is a space-time mathematical continuum--yes. So, the answer depends upon whether one is in proximity to an Event Horizon in which case suffice it to say, Time as we knew it would have collapsed in on itself. On the other hand, if one is traveling at the speed of light, which is bent by the gravitational pull of the sun, as explain when Einstein calculated the perihelion of the planet Mercury, is approximately 186,000 mile per second, we would have a time dilation which can only be understood if we apply the Lorenz Transformations, which would explain partially a future and a past, but both would be irrelevant as we accelerated through space at that rate. In a Worm hole, if we stepped through the entrance--physically we would be stepping Back to the Future(hence the title of the movie with Fox).

This depends on what arena you're talking about. In such things that impact us worldwide such as wars, extinction of wild life, & abuses of our natural environment, if we saw the patterns in history, we "could" change the fiuture for the better, but it's unlikely that we will.
Personally, of course our past experiences contribute much to who we are, yet only if we have truly learned from them. Still, our future holds unpredictabilities to which past lessons may not apply.
Weighing all of this, I would say no. There is no "answer" to the future.
Most respectfully, a comment on EJ. Rather a complex, & "comprehensive" answer from "speculation"!a "comprehensive
Where did THAT come from?? The past?!

Sometimes you have to look back on your past experiences to know where you are and where you might end up if you continue the way you are...If we learn from the past we can change a few things in our lives in order to feel better and try to get a better future for ourselves...Nevertheless, we're living in the Present all the time, and life is unpredictable, so there are always factors that bring about changes in the equation...
We can't avoid change, either from within ourselves and from external factors...That's why the future is always in motion...
But the past can actually help us be prepared for what may come...Our history is a very useful tool, if we learn to use it properly and we don't get lost in obsessive analysis and regret...Learning depends on how well we use this tool...

Well thinking back about something stupid you did in the past can help prevent you from repeating it again in the future, if your the kind of person who wants to not repeat their past actions that is.
I don't know if that was exactly the answer you were looking for but, that's what popped in my mind at the time.

Experience is the best teacher! You gain experience from what you did in the past. The future does not exist, it merely unfolds based on what you did a second ago. The answer to your thoughtful question is definitely, yes. Make certain you did the right thing.

No. The future is the answer to the past. Cause... Effect.
You can, though, learn from the past and enjoy your future more because of what you learn in the past. But that is still cause and effect. :)

Not THE answer, necessarily, but certainly clues. I am reminded of Jonestown. On a plaque over Jim Jones' "throne" were the words "He who does not learn from history is doomed to relive it." And you remember what happened in Jonestown?
P.S. It was NOT Kool-Aid. It was some off-brand.
