If its coming from the hard drive it is probably that something is either broke or is loose or in the way of something like maybe the fan. If its coming from the monitor then I have no idea because the monitor has nothing to do with freezing unless something is really screwed up. So its defiantly not the monitor. I would SAVE EVERYTHING THAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU on something. Take the cover of the desktop off and see if any thing is broken or loose etc. If you take it to the shop it will probably cot you anywhere to $45-$200. So try it if you want to.
Hope it works. =)
P.S
If its a disk try to clean the disk and the lens on the desktop.
Or try un-downloading the subscription and then re-download it.
If its not any of those I don't know and it might just be a common virus you could easily get rid of.

Classic symptoms of spyware. If you haven't secured your computer yet, get a good anti-spyware program like Spybot Search and Destroy (free), and get a good anti-virus like Avast Home Edition (also free). Added details after reading other posts would be I have to say as a technician the hard drive would not cause these symptoms. Spyware patently does exactly what is described. Freezing up usually indicates spyware is hogging resources. The mouse clicking and windows losing focus that is all symptoms of spyware. When a hard drive fails it usually makes a grinding noise or won't even be recognized by the system. ***For two thumbs down, must add not to always trust YA! Get on a tech forum. That is where the experts are. People on here are only one step up from turning their computers on.***

Run ScanDisk to check for bad blocks.
If there are bad blocks already, the Disc and the Head already damage, backup files and replace HDD.
If no bad blocks, maybe a virus is lurking around, if AV cannot fix, re-format and re-install the OS.

You have the click of death. Back up all your data, because your computer's hard drive is about to die.

You probably have a virus that messed up your hard drive.
Download AVG to a CD then reinstall everything on your computer.
