I have a samsung 244t lcd monitor and i'm using a generic power cord from a 22 inch lcd and it doesn't turn on. Does not having the original power cord have any effect?

It should not. If the cord has a matching connector it should work fine. Have you tried using the power cord on another piece of equipment to ensure that it is ok? Also, I believe some montiors will not turn on unless it has a video signal present.

yes they are all the same for desktop monitors, a laptop runs of a 3 prong plug so what would the difference be unless the socket for the brand new laptops have been changed, you may have a bad power cord also
