Are power cords for all monitors the same?

I have a samsung 244t lcd monitor and i'm using a generic power cord from a 22 inch lcd and it doesn't turn on. Does not having the original power cord have any effect?

if its a transformer type of cable, yes it will affect it.

to my knowledge they are all the same run on the same voltage
