Someone can yell a name at you and it can feel like you are that name for the millisecond you are being called it, but then it's over. There are some names people can yell at you and you will cringe for the second it's in the air, and then it fades away again, Thank God.
Name calling is not really "en vogue" these days. That is fortunate for anyone who is not like everyone else.
I am just me, so I do not automatically connect to my name because I do not think of myself as my name. I am just me to me. Nameless and generic me. I definitely can be my name for other people, and usually am, but to myself I have no name - I am just me to me. And for me, it is just me writing to you right now, not Chris... all my answers come from me, not Chris...
There are probably times when you don't feel like a Jimmy or a James, even. You probably don't always feel like a Jim. Sometimes you just feel like you with no name at all. This is a hard one to explain.
The way my parents named me, it sounds a little formal and important sounding, so of course, I am going to be a lot more comfortable with the just-me name of Chris.
Thanks for asking this question. I'm okay with Chris. The one that drives me absolutely nuts is when someone calls me (are you ready?) "Chrissie."
God - at 64 years old, it makes me want to choke them.

I'm pretty sure it does. Many nations around the world believe that the meaning of a name has a great affect on the personality of a person. I belong to one of those nations: Pakistan. Every time someone is born and is Pakistani, much thought is given to what name should be given to the child. For example, if someone's name means "helpful" or "one who helps", there will be a great chance of the person being helpful in every way possible.
Also, I know a great number of people who had been given names without a meaning, and as their lives passed by, they faced hardships and did not know what to do. Then, they were told to change their names and from then on they have seen a great difference in their daily lives as well as their personalities.

i personally don't believe it does, but i was reading an article in a newspaper or magazine a few years back that said yes it does affect your success rate. apparently some university or other had done research and came to the conclusion that certain names contributed to success, class and income. i wish i could give you facts on what was said but like i said, it was a few years back now.
