Look for a black square somewhere on your laptop, probably shiny.
Otherwise you could RTFM and see if that tells you where it is.
This of course assumes your laptop has an IR port.

The port should be right on the side of your computer. In most cases the IR port on the computer is turned off in the BIOS, so when you turn on your computer go into the BIOS and enable the infrared port before you can use it.

The Infrared will be always on with your laptop or desktop. Once you turn Infrared on, from your phone, the laptop/desktop should already be detecting it.

Try buying a USB cable and uploading music to it like a sane person.

Why would you use IR, use bluetooth or a USB cable, this is the 21st century after all
