its covered in pine tar, it increases teh grip on the bat
thats why at every at bat he hits his batting helmet if youve noticed, thats to get some pine tar on his gloves to make sure he has a better grip

Granted, the dreadlocked freak probable smokes an excellent form of weed yet what you spot on his helmet is pine tar. He has it on his arms/gloves and transfers it to the helmet while he adjusts it on his fool head.
