a safety is when one team is close to the goal line, and when the play satrts, and if there is a sack while the person with the ball in witin the goal area, the defense gets 2 points

you get two points and the opposing team has to kick the ball back to you anyway. It is a real nice way to get extra points, but you have to be quick to sack the QB (Quarterback) to make it happen.
