If a Tree Falls in the middle of nowhere and knowbody is around does it make a sound?

Hey LB, I read all the answers and I have to laugh. Yes, a sound is made simply because sound waves are generated when the tree falls whether someone is there to hear it or not.

OK, there are 3 things you need in order to make a sound: a source, a medium (air) and a receiver (an ear or some other device that will pick up the sound wave). Sooooo... as long as there are animals in the forrest whose ears will sense the sound wave, then ok, it does make a sound. But if there are no ears there... then no.
Therefore, there is no sound made in outer space (no air) and if there is no ear/receiver, no sound.

Whether anyone is there or not, it still makes a sound.
That's like, "if a human falls and hits their knees in the middle of a house and nobody is around, do they still make a sound from the horrible pain of smashing their knees?"

Yes. It makes the sound of a squeaky toy. They all pretend to be big and bad when people ARE around. That's why they make loud sounds then.

That's an interesting question and I think it does make a sound but there's no one that can hear it but the animals.

Just because no one is there to hear it doesn't mean it doesn't make a sound. The sound still happens.

yes it does make a sound but at the same time no one is there to hear that sound so how are we sure it make a sound. but if we WERE there it would make a sound so if were NOT there it still would make a sound so in conclusion.......yes it would make a sound!
