well if the dryer is gas, shut off the gas supply and hide the shutoff valve.

if it's electric, you'd have to go inside and take the wires off the heating element. (only when unplugged)
for the washer, you can shut off the water supply or remove the belt from inside.

For the washing machine, bang your head against the front wall of the machine until the dent is big enought that the tub will not spin any more.

For the drying, do the same thing, but you have to bang the top instead of the front.
